#1 - A One-Day Intervention at Mid-Term
Each team selects seven students that are passing at least two classes and need time and tutors to finish quarter one well. This is our paperwork for that event.
-
#2 - The First 20 Days of the School Year
Here is our plan for the first 20 days of the school year. The coordinated onboarding of the next class is critical to our success.
Linked below is our outline.
-
#3 - Handout for Teachers
This is what I gave our teachers for conferences. It’s a "reminder sheet” as they go into this important conversations with parents.
-
#4 - Sophomores Get Open Lunch for Tutoring
Selected sophomores receive OPEN LUNCH every Friday for working for The Freshman Academy.
Check out the contract.
-
#5 - Freshmen Tutoring Freshmen - A Contract
We contract with our willing and able freshmen to tutor during our study halls. On Fridays, they do not have to attend study hall but have an hour for lunch in the building.
-
#6 - Peer Tutor Assignment Example
Schools use upperclassmen to tutor for credit in many schools. We do the same. Here is an example of an assignment we ask these students to complete. It is done on Google and shared with the cooperating teacher.
-
#7 - Simple Check-Ins
Nothing like a simple Google Sheet to provide a simple average of grades. I use this all the time with my freshmen with whom I check-in regularly.
-
#8 - Positive Student Recognition
We become what we celebrate and allow. Time must be allocated to allow teams to recognize their success with freshmen. Here are some ideas.
-
#9 - What we should celebrate!
When we celebrate, we often focus on one of these three things: status, respect, or effort. This document opens up those ideas.
-
#10 - Best Practices for Having a Peer Tutor
This short document is given to teachers as they receive a Peer Tutor in their classroom. This is good for teachers receiving this kind of student for the first time and a good reminder to others.
